What is your role and what does it involve?
I’m Xploro’s script writer. I write the scripts for all the Xploro storybooks as well as the games, the chatbot responses, the avatar names, staff descriptions, and all the item descriptions in the app. Additionally I’m responsible for onboarding info, leaflets, user guides, and press releases. On top of that I manage the Expert Advisory Board meetings and handle the day to day bookkeeping.
What do you enjoy most about working at Xploro?
I love the variety, the freedom to be creative and knowing that what I’m contributing is helping children who are going through a tough time.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
The most challenging aspect of my job is being creative and writing for kids whilst making sure what I come up with is accurate and written in such a way that children (across a range of ages) understand what Xploro is telling them in a way that isn’t condescending and is still fun. It’s a brilliant challenge, I find creativity works best when there are boundaries.
Tell us one of your goals?
Personal goal: to see my novel on the shelves at Waterstones book shop.
Professional goal: to expand my role at Xploro and maybe even head up a team of writers one day.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself
I write and produce stage plays for fun and I’m currently writing my first novel.
Anything else?
It sounds cheesy but I love that it makes a difference. I’ve written for other companies before but it’s all been commercial stuff — marketing mostly — so it’s great to be able to get stuck into something so important that’s also creative and enjoyable.
