Xploro storybooks
Xploro presents young patients with a wide range of diagnostic and treatment experiences. Their avatar friend guides them through each one, step by step and in doing so Xploro demystifies procedures which are often stressful and intimidating to kids.
The equipment we introduce to children is realistic and modeled on typical kit found in healthcare settings around the world. We’ve included some of the sounds a patient will hear during a procedure as well as variations in manufacturer designs.
Xploro also provides supporting content, including the chatbot and games, in order to offer additional information or a new perspective on each of the procedures.
Xploro’s approach centers on three pivotal concerns many children have.
- Their role — What will happen to me and what do I have to do?
- The experience — What will it feel like?
- Coping strategies — What can I do to make it less scary?
The patient sees the experience from the avatar’s perspective which helps prepare them for what it will be like when it’s their turn.
Their avatar friend uses straightforward, age-appropriate language to explain what the equipment does and describe how the experience feels.
The avatar also offers advice to make the experience less stressful and to reduce the need for repeat procedures.
